An old review I wrote a while back but couldn't publish.

Verity is a thriller, romance, and suspense book written by Colleen Hoover, and published on 5th October 2021. I will review it after giving a brief about the plot.

Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, gets an offer from a man called Jeremy to help complete the last three books of a series written by his wife, a well-renowned author named Verity Crawford. While being doubtful of her capabilities, she accepts it. On reaching the house of Verity Crawford, its sinister vibes consume Lowen and the discovery of a manuscript, while rummaging around Verity's notes, leaves her shaken.

I liked the book, but would I classify it as a book which keeps one guessing throughout? No, not really. In the very beginning, I constantly contemplated about what was going to happen next, and which direction that story was going to take, but by the end, I felt almost too comfortable with the plot?... The details no longer horrified me because of the presence of some predictability. It lost the main characteristic of thriller books, which I consider as not letting the reader relax. The story setting was great, it matched the eeriness of the plot was trying to build up. Some could consider the ending as a big twist, but personally, it fell too soft. The slight discomfort it caused didn't creep me out enough. It was an unsatisfying ending to the book, wasting the potential of a heart-tremoring ending. I would recommend this book still to someone who wants to read something chilling but not spine-chilling. Although the book wasn’t blood-curdling enough, it kept me interested and was, overall, a light read.

What would I have changed?

I would have made Jeremy the antagonist, he always seemed too perfect, and to me, it felt like he was the person who was hiding his reality.
